Padmasane padmakare sarva lokaika pujite

Narayana priyadevi suprita mama sarvada

May Goddess Sri Lakshmi who is seated on the lotus flower and holding lotus flower in the hand and who is dear to Bhagawan Sri Narayana bless us with your wishes.

Varalakshmi Vratam (vara is boon, vratam is devotion) is celebrated on the last Friday before Sravana Full Moon day in the lunar month of Sravana particularly in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and parts of Tamil Nadu through religious austerities. It is generally performed by women seeking the blessings of Goddess Sri Lakshmi for the well being of the family, especially her Spouse.

It is the worship of all the eight emanations of the Goddess -

Adilakshmi (foremost), Dhanalakshmi (wealth), Dhanyalakshmi (grain), Gajalakshmi (with elephants), Santanalakshmi (progeny), Viralakshmi (valor), Vijayalakshmi (success) and Vidyalakshmi (skill/education).

On this occasion, a Kalash (decorated with a silk saree) representing Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped by offering flowers and sweets. Gold Jewelry and other offerings are placed in front of the Kalsh. It is believed that Bhagawan Sri Siva ordained the worship, and his consort Sri Parvati was the first to perform Varalakshmi Vratam.
