Shanaishchara Jayanti: (Shani Jayanthi)

is believed to be the day when Lord Shani, one of the Navagrahas made its appearance on Earth. In 2013, the date of Shani Jayanti is June 8. The day is doubly auspicious as there is also a Surya Grahan. Shani is feared by those people who believe and follow astrology, as Shanaishchara has the capacity to create malefic influence on the horoscope and thus in their life.

On Shani Jayanti day, people perform special pujas at Navagraha Temples or in Shani Temples. Those Hindus having Saturn cycle or Shani cycle or Sade Sathi in their horoscope perform special pujas like Shani Yagya or Homa. Some devotees observe a fast (fasting or upvaas) on the day and the rules observed are similar to Shanivar Vrat or Saturday Fasting.

Shani Amavasya:

is the no moon day that falls on a Saturday or Shanivar in traditional Hindu calendar. In 2013, Shani Amavasya date is June 8. Amavasya is considered inauspicious by many Hindu communities and the fear of Lord Shani is well known as he is believed to create havoc in the life of people.

Shani Amavasya is keenly followed by people who believe in astrology. People suffering from Pitra Dosh and Kaal Sarpa Dosh conduct remedial pujas on the day. Various other rituals dedicated to Lord Shani are performed on the day. The day is also considered ideal for performing Sharadh and Tarpan for dead ancestors.

Amrit Siddhi Yog:

When on a specific day a rare or special Nakshatra appears, the combination is called Amrit Siddhi Yoga. Ancient scholars have considered Amrit Siddhi Yog as very auspicious for every task. Any task can be initiated or undertaken during the Amrit Siddhi Yoga. If any task is initiated during this Muhurat, it gives fruitful results and success for sure. In 2013, the date for Amrit Siddhi Yog is June 8th.

It is very rare for all 3 - Shanaishchara Jayanthi, Shani Amavasya and Amrit Siddhi Yog to fall on the same day and also on a Saturday. It is for this reason, that the Temple will be performing a Special Shani Puja in the Navagraha Mandir.
