Temple Activities in July

Rath Yatra:
July 18 (Sunday) 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Every year on the auspicious day of Ashadh Sud 2, in early July, Hindus celebrate the Rath Yatra festival. Rath means chariot, Yatra - a procession. Though this festival is celebrated all over India, it originated in Jagannath Puri on the eastern coast. Every year the deities of Jagannath Mandir - Lord Krishna, Balaram and Subhadra (siblings) - are traditionally installed on huge chariots. Devotees pull the chariots in a yatra (procession) through the streets of Puri in Orissa.
We will pull a Rath around the Temple on July 18th. We are looking for volunteers to step forward to decorate the Rath. We will take the Utsav moorthies (small size) of Sri Krishna around the circumference of the main Temple on this day. Please come join us on this auspicious day.

Guru Purnima:
July 25 (Sunday) 06:00 pm - 08:00 pm

The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of Guru Purnima, a day sacred to the memory of the great sage Vyasa. All Hindus are indebted to this ancient saint who edited the four Vedas, wrote the 18 Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavata. Vyasa even taught Dattatreya, who is regarded as the Guru of Gurus.
We will perform Sri Satyanarayana Pooja on this day. Interested devotees may sign up to sponsor this Pooja with a donation amount of $116.

Aptaputra Jaymeshanandji and Nimeshanandji Satsang's:
July 31st (Saturday) 06:00 pm - 08:00 pm

Administrative Matters

The Board of Trustees of the Hindu Society of Nevada meets once every quarter. The following are decisions that were approved by the Board of Trustees at the 3rd Quarter Meeting held at the Temple on July 11th, 2010.

Temple Patio Enclosure:
The Board of Trustees have authorised the Construction committee comprising of Rao Gondy, Ram Janga and Virendra Sanwal to present a proposal for the temporary/permanent enclosure of the Patio. The Construction committee will obtain proposals from an Architect's firm for the overall cost of design and construction to enclose the Patio. This proposal will be presented at the next Board meeting in October for further action. This will be the next project that will be undertaken at the Temple since we have just completed the Phase II Expansion Project (new residence and basement).

Tree Sponsorship:
We have installed 17 trees (24" boxed) about 12 feet in height around the circumference of the main temple. Devotees can sponsor a plaque in memory of any of their beloved ones for a minimum donation of $5,000. The format of the plaque will be approved at the next Board Meeting in October. We have already received intent of donations for 3 trees amounting to a total donation of $15,000.

Second Panditji:
The Board of Trustees have appointed a 3 member committee comprising of Jagdish Mehta, Amrath Bhai Patel and Rao Gondy to move forward with the search for a second Panditji.
