Food Sponsorship Program

Temple food sponsorship and fee collection procedure starting from August 1st 2010

The Board of Trustees during their 3rd and 4th quarter board meetings held in April 2010 and July 2010 passed a resolution with unanimous approval to charge devotees for the food offered by sponsors on Sunday and for other major events at the Temple. This action was taken to increase the source of revenue for the Temple.

The Board of Trustees and Executive Committee have designated Mr. Dilip Shukla; Mr. Ramesh Piplani; Mrs. Bharati Sharma; Mrs. Savita Kaushal as “Food Committee” to implement the Board of Trustees decision.

The Food Committee has evaluated various options to involve everyone in the entire
Indian community to be part of the “Food Committee sponsors” and have recommended
the following procedure.

1. Any communication related to Food should be directed to “Food Committee”.

2. Devotees interested in sponsoring food for the Temple for any event will write a check to “The Hindu Temple of Las Vegas” for the specific date and event.

3. The Temple will give the sponsor a receipt for the food sponsorship amount so that they can use it as a deduction on their tax return (currently food sponsors do not receive this benefit).

4.  The Food Committee will identify different entities to be involved in the preparation of the food on Sunday and major events and will also discuss the menu and pricing for the entities. Each entity will have an opportunity to cook the food for the temple on a rotational basis. The committee will make efforts to enlist the services of different groups within the community for special events.

5. The Food Committee with the help of the executive committee and volunteers will collect $3.00/ person for food on regular events and $5.00/ person on special events. Children under 12 will have food for free.

6. The Hindu Temple of Las Vegas will cut a check to the entity that cooks the food. The check for Sunday food will be for $300 for 100-125 and $400 for 125-150 people. The menu for Sunday sponsorship will be finalized by the food committee.

7. To maintain consistency in collecting money during Sunday lunches, sponsors who invite their friends should rent downstairs hall to accommodate their guests

8. The “Food Committee” will prepare additional procedures for the special events that take place at the temple.
